WILDCATS: 6
OTTAWA HILLS HIGH SCHOOL: 2

On a beautiful, late summer day, the Wayland Wildcats hosted the Ottawa Hills Bengals in their last regular-season OK Gold Conference match on Wednesday night.  The Bengals came to play, bringing talented 1st and 2nd singles players to the match ready to go.  Christian Sieffert met their tough 1st singles player in a match that featured 2 power forehands on both sides of the court.  The Bengals came out on top of the flight, 6-1, 6-3.  At 2nd singles, consistency was the name of the game as Jackson Chesley took on their talented Freshman.  Their player ran down and returned everything Jackson threw at him, and ended up winning the match 6-3, 6-1.  At 3rd singles, Andrew Murphy played a great tennis, placing his shots with accuracy and relying on his volley game to take points when needed.  Andrew battled through the first set, taking it 7-5, then took charge in the second, winning it 6-1.  At 4th singles, Nolan Ritz was victorious, using his ground strokes to effectively move his opponent around the court.  Nolan did what he needed to in the first set, taking it 6-3, then also took charge in the second set, winning 6-1.  In the doubles flights, Brett Bultsma and Mark Musgrave were victorious, taking their match 6-0 and 6-1.  At 2nd doubles, Brady Atwell and Elijah Kincaid took their match 6-0, 6-0.  The 3rd and 4th doubles flights were defaulted to Wayland due to absent players, which brought the overall match score to 6-2 in Wayland's favor.  With those matches in the books, the Wayland Wildcats ended the week undefeated as a team!!  This is a great accomplishment for a group of players that has been putting in the work and playing better and better as the season progresses, which is the goal in any sport.  I'm trying to remember the last time the Wayland High School Men's Tennis program went undefeated for an entire week, and after being with the team for 4 years...I believe this is the first time.  Congratulations Boys!  Great Job!
