Game Date
Sep 15, 2021
Score
WILDCATS: 4
CEDAR SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL: 4

On Wednesday night, the Wildcats Boys Tennis Team took the show on the road and played the Cedar Springs Red Hawks and an OK Gold Conference matchup.

The Red Hawks started with an adjusted lineup as quarantine claimed their 1st singles player, therefore all of the singles flights moved up one spot and 4th singles defaulted in Wayland's favor.  At the 1st singles flight, Christian Sieffert took on a talented player in his first match back from injury on Saturday.  The first set was a good battle, but the match ended 6-3, 6-0 in favor of Cedar Springs.  At 2nd singles, Jackson Chesley played against the mirror image of his own game, facing an opponent that got back all of his shots wherever he hit them.  They battled evenly through 2 sets, 6-4, 2-6.  But it was the Red Hawks that came through in the 3rd set, 6-0.  At that point, the score was 2-1 in favor of Cedar Springs.  In the 3rd singles flight, Andrew Murphy played a tough match, but fell just shy with a score of 6-4, 5-7.  (3-1, Cedar Springs).

In the doubles flights, the 1st doubles team of Brady Atwell and Elijah Kincaid could not harmonize and lost 6-4, 6-1.  With that match, the score was 4-1 against Wayland.

Luckily, the 2nd through 4th doubles teams prevailed in their matches!  The 2nd doubles team of Mark Musgrave and Austin Graham found their game in the middle of the 1st set and rebounded from a 2-5 deficit to come back and take the first set 7-5, winning 5 straight games!  The 2nd set was better for Wayland, who took the set and match with a 2nd set score of 6-2. (4-2, Cedar Springs). In 3rd doubles, the Freshman Sensation continued as Cam Sieffert and Theo Oddy took their match convincingly, 6-2, 6-1.  (4-3, Cedar Springs). At 4th doubles, the team of Garrett Spoor and Carson Beck also came through in good shape, 6-2, 6-0 (4-4 Tie).

Grand Rapids Catholic Central is up next for the Wildcats at The Cat in Grand Rapids in what is sure to be another competitive match.
