Booster Athletes of the Month - August

ALI MARTUS

Ali is a sophomore and has been a member of the Girls Varsity Golf team for two years and serves as team captain. She is also a member of Varsity Girls Basketball team and JV Softball team. She tied for low scoring average in the OK Gold Golf Conference, earned All-Conference and All-County teams for the second year in a row. This year she also earned All-Area Team and All-State First Team for Division 3. She finished 4th at Conference Tournament, 3rd at Regionals, and tied for 10th at the State Tournament. Ali set a school scoring record for the Wayland Girls Golf Team for 18 holes with a score of 76 and also set the 9-hole school record with a score of 34.

Ali excels academically with a 3.63 GPA and is a member of Student Council.

QUINCY BOLLONE

Quincy is a junior and member of the Varsity Boys Tennis team and serves as Tennis team captain for 2013. Quincy is also a member of the Varsity Wrestling team, Varsity Boys Swim & Dive team, and JV Boys Golf team. Quincy was selected as First Team All-Conference in Tennis. He became a leader that took the team to a 3rd place finish in the Tennis Gold Conference. Quincy also worked on the selection of the new boy’s tennis uniforms for the team.

Quincy is a person that takes responsibility for his actions, which is passed onto the younger players in Tennis. It is an honor to select him as a leader and outstanding player in his sport”. -Coach Schaefer

GABRIELLE GRAY

Gabrie is a senior has been on the Varsity Girls Swim team for four years. She earned team captain senior year, and is a current school record holder for the medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. She earned All-Conference, All-County and was a State Finals Qualifier for Swim in 2013.

Gabrie excels academically with a 4.13 GPA and is a member of National Honor Society.

MATT LARSEN

Matt is a senior and member of the Varsity Soccer team, and served as team captain. He is also a member of the Varsity Football team. He made All-Conference, All-County and All-District in Soccer. Matt also organized and fund raised over $1,000 for mosquito nets for a charity organization.

Matt excels academically with a 3.86 GPA and is a member of P.A.L.S and National Honor Society.

“Matt is a great kid and one of the hardest working players I have had the privilege of coaching at Wayland. He was often at school to lift, or work on  soccer skills before and after hours and is always asking if I can work with him on things. Matt is a stellar example of what it means to have Wildcat pride!”  – Coach Sleeman

Booster Athletes of the Month - October

EMILY GRAY

Emily is a freshman and member of the Varsity Girls Cross Country team. Emily finished fastest among the 2013 Wayland Girls Cross Country team with a personal best time of 20:05. This time places her as the 9th fastest runner in Wayland history and 4th fastest freshman. She earned All-Conference and All-County in 2013 with a 9th place finish at the Championship meet. She was also 4th in the OK Gold and placed 19th at the regional meet.

“I have had only one other runner with such raw talent. Other qualities Emily exhibits is her strong work ethic, respect for others and competitiveness. She has a great sense of humor and humility and she is well liked and respected by her teammates. I'm looking forward to seeing what she can accomplish next season!” –Coach Brewer

 

JAKE NEWTON

Jake is a senior  and member of the Varsity Cross Country team, Varsity Boys Swim & Dive team and Boys Track team. Jake ran a team best of 17:03 this Cross Country season. He placed 1st in his team in 13 of the 15 races. Jake earned All-Conference honorable mention and he was a member of the All-Allegan County team. Jake was the only runner who qualified for the State Finals at Michigan International Speedway.

Booster Athletes of the Month - November

KRISSY DILL

Krissy is a senior and a member of the Varsity Volleyball team and team voted captain. She played outside hitter and racked up 677 kills this season. Krissy lead the team this season with a 93.7% serve percentage. She was named All-Conference, All-County, All-Region and All-State First Team.

Krissy has committed to attend KVCC to play volleyball in the fall.

“Krissy was one of our “go-to” hitters this year and was very accomplished at filling that role. She also worked her way into becoming a 6 rotation player for us this year with her very reliable defense.”  - Coach Getty

 

TREVOR CLAUSEN

Trevor is a senior and member of the Varsity Football team and Varsity Baseball team. Trevor was the starting QB for 10 out of 11 games and his passes were 24 of 61 for over 300 yards and a TD. Trevor earned honorable mention All-State Academic and was part of the team that made Wayland the third ranked team academically in the state for Division 3.

Trevor excels academically with a 4.0 GPA and is a member of National Honor Society

Booster Athletes of the Month - December

EMILY FIFELSKI

Emily is a senior and a member of Varsity Girls Bowling team and Varsity Girls Soccer team. She placed 4th in the Pre-Conference Bowling Tournament and leads the team in average and points won. She is leaned on by every one of her teammates and is well respected amongst her peers.

Emily excels academically with a 4.15 GPA and is a member of National Honor Society

 “Emily is committed to improving every aspect of her game. She works hard at practice and is a very good student. She has taken on a much needed leadership role for the Lady Wildcats Bowling team this year as she anchors a very young and inexperienced squad. She leads by example with her confidence, consistency and competitiveness.”   -Coach Holbrook

 

JOVY BILETH

Jovy is a senior and a member of the Varsity Boys Cross Country team, Varsity Wrestling team and Varsity Boys Track team. He serves as a 2013/14 team captain for Varsity Wrestling. Jovy was the only Cross Country runner to medal at the Portage Invitational, his career best time in the 5 kilometer race is 17.36. Jovy also scored the 3rd most team points in Varsity Wrestling, as well as 3rd best individual record on the team.

“Jovy was voted unanimously by his teammates to serves as team captain. He models toughness and perseverance. Despite battling injury, Jovy seeks out the toughest competition.” - Coach Harter

“Jovy worked through injury this past Cross Country season to run Varsity 9 of his 13 races.” - Coach Harcourt

Booster Athletes of the Month - January

ALLISON GETTY

Allie is a senior and member of Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Basketball. She serves as 2013/14 team captain in Varsity Basketball. Allie earned All-conference, All-area, All-region, All-state, and was voted Grand Rapids MLive Player of the Year in Volleyball.

Allison excels academically with a 4.06 GPA and is a member of National Honor Society. Allie will play Volleyball at Northwood University in the fall.

“Allie is a large part of our current success this year for the Varsity Basketball team. She is a team captain and one of the hardest workers on the team as well as a fierce competitor.” - Coach Howard

 

AARON ROBLYER

Aaron is a junior and a member of Varsity Football and Varsity Wresting. He serves as a 2013/14 Varsity Wresting team captain and is currently undefeated in the conference. He has scored the most team points, and has the team’s best individual record. Aaron was also a contributor to the success of this year’s Varsity Football play-off team. He was a starter in defensive backfield and also scored eight touchdowns on offense.

Aaron excels academically with a 3.61 GPA

Booster Athletes of the Month - February

NICOLE QUIGLEY

Nicole is a junior and member of the Sideline and Varsity Competitive Cheer team; she serves as 2013/2014 team captain for Competitive Cheer. Nicole is the first member of the WUHS Competitive Cheer program to be awarded Grand Rapids Player of the Week. Nicole earned All-Conference, 2nd team All-District, Academic All-State Individual, and Academic All-State Honorable Mention Team.

Nicole excels academically with a 3.8 GPA and is a member of PALS and National Honor Society. Nicole will attend Davenport University and its Cheerleading program in 2015.

LACEY JAMES

Lacey is a junior and member of the Varsity Boys Basketball team. Lacey has served his team as the leading rebounder and leading shot blocker all season long leading up to the team’s win at districts and regionals making them Class B Regional Champions.

“Lacey is a quiet team leader with incredible integrity. He has been a big part of this season’s success. He is a great role model and overall student athlete. It has been a pleasure coaching him and having him on the team.” – Coach Hudson
